Radio Airplay Review: Scam or Legit Way to Promote Your Music?

One of the biggest challenges musicians face is the amount of airplay, if any, they get on radio. Airplay is the broadcasting time devoted to a particular record, performer, or musical genre. Airplay helps the musician get exposure since your songs are played to a larger audience and this comes with a lot of opportunities.

For most musicians, getting airplay is a dream come true since it assures you that your music is getting heard. This can make a big impact on your music career. Traditionally, upcoming musicians approach music stations to request for their music to get airplay. This process is very tiresome and discouraging to up and coming musicians and requires a lot of patience.

In recent years, there has been the development of radio internet platforms, such as Radio Airplay, Pandora, among others, which use algorithms to generate playlists with music from both established and emerging artists, and giving them airtime. This is awesome since emerging musicians get a platform through which their music gets heard.

What is Radio Airplay?

Radio Airplay is a platform which provides free internet radio. It is the sister site of Jango.com, which is also an internet radio station.

This internet radio station plays music by artists depending on the genre of music you prefer. Radio Airplay plays a very crucial role in the discovery of new artists since you get to listen to new artists who produce music which is similar to the genre you selected to be listening to on the online radio.

These are artists who normally you would never have known to exist. Radio Airplay is therefore very helpful in the discovery of new artists.

My Story with Radio Airplay

I am an aspiring musician who has a dream of being a huge star in the near future. Being in the music industry requires tough skin. I am still new to the industry and I have experienced major setbacks which sometimes are disheartening. These include getting no response to your music demo, low turnout to my gigs, low funds and cancelled shows.

The biggest problem in my case has been getting airplay in a radio station. This is because by achieving this milestone would help alleviate these other setbacks since airplay greatly enhances your exposure since your music gets to be heard by a large audience. Getting airplay, in turn, helps you to get more opportunities.

I was recently introduced to Radio Airplay by a friend of mine. It was pretty easy to use and what impressed me was that they offered me a free trial. All I had to do was to select the preferred audience for my music by selecting musicians who perform in the same genre of music as me and upload my song, and my song was added to a playlist of similar songs in the internet radio station.

Over the past few months that I have been using Radio Airplay, my songs have racked up 1971 plays, and have garnered me a small fan base. This, however, has not been for free. I have had to pay some money in order to get airplay.

There are monthly packages which I have had to subscribe to, in order to get up to 1000 additional plays on the online platform. This has helped me so far since I am not suffering as before, and I hope that things continue to improve as I continue using Radio Airplay.

  1. I used Radio Airplay for my 80’s genre rock songs and spent a lot of money racking up 36,096 plays, 71,703 credits used with only 369 fans. As a writer I think my lyrics are solid and the music rocks but then again every musician thinks their music is good. Sadly Radio Airplay did not give me the exposure I hoped for nor did it help me with any sales of my songs. While it’s nice to build up a fan base and get airplay I would not recommend this site to anyone looking to sell their music. Here is a link to my music and while I know the 80’s rock genre isn’t as popular as it once was I have to think there are plenty of people who still love rock and roll. I also have my music on Distrokid and it’s uploaded to all the major music sites but making music and selling it is not an easy task. If you decide to use Radio Airplay don’t expect a lot from it.

    1. Thanks for your response. It was the only response but as I have just started to use Radio Airplay I felt that the platform seemed to use up plays rapidly which could be a good thing but made me suspicious. I guess I have only been on for a few weeks and have gained a few fans and it is good to have any exposure but at the end of the day yes you do want to have those sales. That is the bottom line and it could just amount to what the cereal public has an appetite for. Your music seems well played but heavier than my taste calls for but, we are all different and what’s popular and what is good is two different things. Good is subjective, popular is not. Best wishes Jim! J Houston Band, ps we are not always popular but I feel you must play what you love popular or not.

    2. Hi,
As a credit equals one play how did you use so many credits for half the number of plays, or am I not reading this right? BTW – RA have since cut the number of plays you get for the same money.
No explanation or prior warning. Bad service. I still use it occasionally to try a new song but by and large I avoid them.

  2. I am in a dilemma. I am an aspiring gospel songwriter/ rapper. I write songs and do performances at my church now and then for about 10 years. I want to gain exposure for my music, but don’t have a lot of money to invest in Radio airplay; being a senior on a fixed income . Also I am 73 years old and I’m not that apt when it comes to using the internet. What’s an old woman to do?

    1. Hi Alice,
Before going any further, I would strongly suggest you don’t spend your money in any form of online or offline advertising or radioplay, especially if you’re not trained in music promotion. Your budget is very precious, so if I were you I would try to learn more about the different ways of marketing my music before spending any dollar.

  3. I was thinking on give a try to Radio Airplay but it’s unclear to me if they use their own online radio stations or if they have some partners to do that.

    1. Hey Lio, it’s to get your music on Jango.com, an internet radio site with over 8 million registered users (according to their site).

  4. Do not waste your money. Radio Air Play was paid $100 to play 2500 a month they only played approx 500. After seeing they were not living up to there end I cancel payment for the following month. I’m still waiting for my 2500 air plays that I paid for, they are not giving them to me. DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH THEM YOU WILL REGRET IT.

    1. Hi Carl and sorry to hear that you’re not happy with RA’s services.
Did they reply to you and address why that happened?

  5. I think the real issue is who the hell use Jango.com to listen to music nowadays? Who even knows that it exists?

  6. I’ve used Radio Airplay/Jango for about 15 years. You can do it for $10 month, so it’s not super expensive. They tell you who hears your music, what it was played with, and who clicks “fan”. It seems like a great idea – my older (rock) account has about 350 “fans,” but I have no idea if any of them ever cared again after clicking “fan” or ever bought a CD or download of us. We DO sell some CDs, downloads, etc. online (slowly but steadily) – I don’t know if it’s from Jango or the other radio and reviews we sent our music to. One nice thing is you can see what artists your music is played with and figure out what fans like your music (e.g. if I get more fans for my band Sleepy Hollow from Deep Purple listeners than Iron Maiden). It does seem lately that it takes longer for them to play my songs (you can set the speed somewhat, but it still seems slower – maybe Jango has decreased in listeners?)

  7. I have been with RAP for quite some time. And I have noticed that there has never been an upgrade or improvement to this site. No new features not even a simple program change such as being able to pick multiple tunes and apply the same number of credits. RAP is the only application that doesn't improve as time goes by to better serve its clients and their ability to utilize this service. This makes me doubt the validity of this site. It appears to collect money…period..

  8. Up to December 2023, when Jango Radio/Radioairplay revamped their website, artists were offered good exposure of their music at a decent price. But after December 2023 things changed for the worse. I have always bought 1000 play credits a month for $30. If your songs get played a lot you get bonus points every month: in my case the average was about 350 a month – one-third of what I purchased per month, which was quite good.

But when they revised the website they apparently altered the algorhythms, and not in the artists’ favor. In December 2023 I had 396 bonus points and had been getting on average 350/month for the last 10 months, but in January 2024 I received 222. Before December 2023 I could see that people were listening to my song almost every hour in a 24 hour period, but after the website’s revision there were 4-10 hour gaps during a 24 hour period. I contacted support@radioairplay.com.to complain, who do respond promptly. I sent over 40 screenshots to back up my logical argument with actual statistics and proof, but my argument was dismissed. The agent, Tara, simply assured me this was normal but provided absolutely no evidence to support her conclusion, and her logic was pathetic. SHE DID NOTHING ABOUT THE SITUATION. Frankly, she didn’t seem to give a damn.

SO, I SAY TO PEOPLE CONSIDERING JOINING AND EVEN TO THOSE ALREADY SUBSCRIBED, THE GOOD AND FAIR DAYS ARE GONE AT JANGO RADIO/RADIOAIRPLAY.
